Acrylic engraving and cutting

Clear material, your own shape. From an engraved nameplate to a custom presentation shape, acrylic offers room for a considered design. We combine engraving and cutting where material, thickness and dimensions allow.

Acrylic engraving: design the shape and message together

The outer contour, engraving and background work together in an acrylic display. A transparent sign can read very differently against a light wall or a dark counter. Start with where the item will be placed. SDLG helps align the form and information. For contours and openings, provide a drawing at actual size and distinguish cutting from engraving. For interlocking parts, thickness and fit are particularly important; a drawing alone does not establish how stable the final display will be.

Transparent or coloured acrylic

Acrylic, also called Plexiglas, is a plastic rather than glass. A clear sign can look light and open; a coloured version may provide greater contrast. Explain whether the priority is readable text, a custom contour or a combination of parts. Suitable applications include information signs for a counter or door, shapes and letters for a presentation, and a design combining cut parts with an engraved message. A replaceable insert in an engraved holder may suit frequently changing menus or prices.

Cast or extruded material

Cast acrylic is often a suitable choice for a clear frosted engraving. Extruded acrylic produces a different engraving effect. Select material for the intended result: a prominent logo, a transparent background or primarily a cut contour. If supplying your own sheets, identify the exact material. Not every transparent plastic is acrylic; unfamiliar sheet material requires reliable composition information.

Front, back and reading direction

An engraving on the rear of transparent acrylic can be read through the sheet. This requires the design to be mirrored during execution. State which side should be readable. Supply the original artwork in its normal reading orientation and tell us if you have already mirrored it. Engraving does not apply coloured ink. If a specific brand colour matters, say so before material selection so alternatives can be discussed.

Thickness, holes and fit

Dimension holes and slots, and identify parts that need to slide together. Actual sheet thickness and the cutting kerf affect fit. We agree any trial component and associated cost before producing the batch. The larger laser’s working area is 910 × 610 mm; feasibility also depends on the actual sheet, thickness and design. The fibre laser’s separate 120 × 120 mm engraving field does not apply as a general limit to acrylic projects. We confirm dimensions, thickness and fit for your request.

Prepare your drawing and quotation

Include application and viewing side; material type, colour and thickness; overall dimensions, contour and attachment holes; engraving artwork and position; quantity, preferred date and any mating parts. Supply SVG or a PDF with vector lines at actual size in millimetres. Close contours, remove duplicate lines and separate cutting, engraving and guide lines. A dimensioned sketch is a useful starting point; production requires an appropriate drawing. Material, thickness, cut length, engraving area, preparation and any fit trial affect the quotation.

Delivery and lead time

Frequently asked questions

Is acrylic the same as glass?

No. It is a plastic with different properties and processing options. Use the glass engraving service for actual drinking glasses or other glass products.

Which acrylic gives a clear engraving?

Cast acrylic is often a suitable choice for a frosted engraving. Colour, surface and the proposed design still determine the appropriate execution.

Can you cut my own shape?

Where acrylic type, thickness and dimensions are suitable. Supply the contour and intended use so feasibility and any tolerances can be agreed.

Can I supply my own material?

It can be assessed if its exact type is known. Provide specifications and dimensions; an unknown plastic is not accepted without assessment.

Can my logo be engraved in its brand colours?

Laser engraving adds no coloured ink. Material and execution create the effect. Mention exact colour requirements so another material or technique can be considered.

Is a photograph enough for cutting?

It helps explain the idea but is not an accurate cut drawing. Add dimensions and use; any drawing preparation is included in the proposal.
