A memorial plaque for a friendship of many years
For Jan Elzinga, SDLG created a memorial plaque from black and clear cast acrylic. It was made for the grave of the former mayor of Kozmin in Poland. The brief called for a simple, dignified design with a personal message that was easy to read. SDLG prepared the design and digital proof, then made the plaque. The project was completed in September 2026, before the client travelled to Poland.

The request: a personal tribute in Kozmin
Jan Elzinga, a former mayor, wanted to place a personal reminder of a friendship of many years at the grave. The memorial plaque needed to express that connection through a simple shape and clear lettering.
The message and the place where the plaque would stand guided the design. It also needed to be ready in time for Jan to take it with him to Poland.
Black and clear acrylic for a legible engraving
SDLG made the plaque from two pieces of cast acrylic: a clear front and a black backing. The light engraving stands out against the dark background. A fine border frames the words and keeps the design understated.
The text is engraved on the inside, placing the engraving between the two pieces. The choice of material and construction supports the quiet, personal appearance Jan wanted.

The memorial plaque: design, proof and assembly
The plaque is approximately half an A4 sheet in size, with two ground stakes around 15 cm long. SDLG prepared a digital proof so the arrangement of the words could be reviewed before production.
Plastic bolts connect the two pieces, with additional adhesive at the lower stakes. The product photograph shows the simple construction, including four fasteners around the text area and two pointed stakes.

Placed at the grave in Poland
Jan placed the memorial plaque at the grave in Kozmin himself. His photograph shows it among the planting and other tributes. According to Jan, people there appreciated the appearance and appropriate character of the finished piece.

Original customer feedback in Dutch:
