Name plate engraving
A clear first impression.
Show who is behind a door or add a recognisable detail to a reception desk. With an engraved name plate, we match the text, material and size to the place where people read it.

Illustrative example. We agree the material, details and specification for your product.
Careful choices make the difference
Name plate engraving suited to its location
A name plate by a front door, on a desk or beside a workspace has a different viewing distance and purpose. Recognition matters at a business entrance; on a door plate, a clear name or department often comes first. SDLG assesses your logo and helps match the amount of information to the selected size.
Clear margins and sufficient contrast between text and background make a name plate easier to read. Tell us whether it will be indoors or outdoors and how it will be fixed. The colour and texture of the background wall matter too. We discuss material and specification for that situation, without promising a universal lifespan for every combination.
Options
Legible at the right distance.
A door name plate has a different role from a small sign on a reception desk. Start with viewing distance and the information people need immediately. Short text, good contrast and enough space around the design keep it clear. Then choose a suitable material and fixing.
Doors and room identification
A name, department or room number in a consistent style. Tell us whether more plates in the same design may be needed later.
Reception and presentation
A company name or logo on a separate plate for a reception area or display. Acrylic can provide a light, transparent appearance.
A metal name plate
For a suitable sign, options include aluminium or stainless steel . The specification depends on location, finish and legibility.
Choices & specification
Material, text and fixings considered together.
01
Appearance
Transparent acrylic, a metallic appearance or suitable engraving laminate each give a different effect. We choose for your brand style and the contrast the text needs.
02
Location
Indoors or outdoors, flat or on stand-offs: describe the position and mounting surface. Sunlight, moisture and cleaning are considered when assessing materials.
03
Fixings
A plate on stand-offs, on a door or freestanding on a desk needs different preparation. Tell us the mounting surface and any existing holes. Fixings, drilling positions and distance from the wall are agreed before production.
For greater visibility on your building, see signage and branding. Delivery and any installation of a name plate are agreed separately; installation around Breda can be discussed.
Preparing your enquiry
This helps us get started.
- Location and a photograph of the door, wall or desk.
- Required width and height, and viewing distance.
- Exact name, text and any company logo.
- Indoor or outdoor use and material preference.
- Quantity, fixings and required date.
Check spelling, job titles and required line breaks. For a batch, include the longest name: this determines the space needed in the standard layout. After initial contact, supply the original logo and brand examples; our artwork guidance helps you choose files.
From idea to proposal
What affects the price?
Material, size, number of text versions and finish affect the price. Fixings and any installation are agreed separately so the scope of delivery is clear.
SDLG works from Breda and delivers products throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Visits, drop-offs and collection at Heusing 10K are by appointment only. Tell us your preference when enquiring; we agree the schedule, packaging and shipping costs. See our contact details and directions to our workshop.
Your first idea is enough to start a conversation.
Which material suits an outdoor name plate?
This depends on location, exposure and required appearance. Specify outdoor use beforehand; material is not chosen solely from a colour or example photograph.
Can all doors have the same style?
Yes, discuss one standard layout for names, departments and room numbers. Supply a checked list with one row per plate. If visitors need to find several rooms, extend the style to engraved wayfinding signs.
Is a technical identification plate also a name plate?
It usually has a different purpose. For serial numbers, technical data and machine identification, see our identification plates page.
Can you help with fixings?
Yes, tell us the mounting surface and location. We agree fixings and any installation around Breda for the selected plate. Supply only can also be discussed.
Can I change the name on a plate later?
An engraving is permanent and cannot easily be edited like text. If staff or names may change, discuss an insert, replaceable section or fixed base with interchangeable information beforehand. We assess which construction suits your design.
Can a new name plate fit existing drilled holes?
Supply the required width and height and measure the distance between the centres of the existing holes. State their positions relative to the plate edges and their diameters. A photograph helps assessment but does not replace dimensions in millimetres.
About the process
Which laser suits your product?
The material, surface and required result determine the process. Read our guide to CO₂ and fibre lasers →
Identifying more than one door?
Bring rooms and routes together with a set of engraved wayfinding signs. Use a consistent layout for names, numbers and directions.
From idea to finished product
What first impression should your name plate make?
Tell us where it will go, the required text and the size you have in mind. Include indoor or outdoor use, quantity and proposed fixings. A photograph of the door, wall or desk helps us assess material, contrast and proportions together.
