Mirror engraving for a personal gift
Mirror engraving with a floral heart and a monogram: Marco Jansen wanted a personal gift with a calm, balanced appearance. His first idea was a heart-shaped mirror inspired by an AI mood image. Bart van Gool discussed which elements were technically achievable and suggested a round mirror available from stock.
The result was one mirror measuring 40 cm in diameter, made at SDLG in Breda in October 2026. A heart of flowers and leaves surrounds a personal monogram within the round shape. The design was engraved on the back and finished with pink colouring.
From a mood image to a workable design
A mood image helps communicate an idea, but it is not yet a production drawing. For this request, fine detail, colour differences and the proposed shape called for an alternative. The round stock mirror provided a workable starting point while keeping the heart in the design.
SDLG prepared the supplied black-and-white artwork for laser engraving. The floral lines were made slightly thicker to create a clear engraving and allow the pink colouring to remain visible. Marco approved the digital preview beforehand. Shape, pattern and positioning were therefore agreed before engraving began.

Mirror engraving on the back
During mirror engraving, the laser selectively removed the reflective coating from the back, following the prepared artwork. Pink colouring was then applied to the exposed areas.
This creates a coloured design visible from the front. Flowers and leaves form the heart outline, with the monogram in the centre. The overview photograph shows the actual finished mirror; it is not a generated product image.

Pink colouring and space for mounting
The back also needed attention beyond the visible pattern. Part of it was left unpainted for a concealed mounting system. Marco planned to provide that system himself, so SDLG allowed for this next step when applying the colour.
The division of work was clear: SDLG supplied the round mirror and prepared the artwork, engraving and pink finish. The customer arranged the mounting system. SDLG confirmed that the mirror was ready on 20 October.
Marco’s response
Looking at the finished photograph, Marco felt that the pink worked well and that the overall result was neat and calm. His five-star review highlights the practical alternatives and realistic advice:
“He thought it through with me and came up with very good alternatives. Bart gives a realistic picture of what is possible. Based on his suggestions and tips, I made some adjustments and I am more than satisfied with the final result!”

Frequently asked questions about mirror engraving
Does the mirror itself have to be heart-shaped?
This project used a round mirror with a floral heart design inside it. That retained the intended look in a technically workable alternative.
Can an engraving in a mirror be coloured?
For this mirror, the reflective coating was selectively removed from the back and the design was then coloured pink. Before mirror engraving, SDLG assesses the material, backing and proposed finish.
Is the mounting system included?
Marco arranged the concealed mounting system himself. Part of the back was left unpainted for it. For a new request, discuss who will provide the mounting and how much space it needs.
