Control panel engraving

Every function clearly labelled.

Need clear text, symbols and connection labels on a control panel? SDLG in Breda engraves suitable front plates and panels. We advise on legibility and production using your checked layout, material details and dimensions.

Existing engraved technical-information example; each control panel has its own checked content and dimensions.

Careful choices make the difference

Control panel engraving from a fixed reference

A control panel label needs to match the correct button or connection. A design with a clear origin, centre distances and a consistent reading direction prevents ambiguity. Send a dimensioned drawing rather than relying solely on a photograph, whose perspective can distort positions.

For several functions, use consistent text sizes, symbols and abbreviations. SDLG checks whether your design and details can be produced on the chosen material. Functional meaning, safety information and technical accuracy remain part of your supplied specification. Holes, cut-outs and cutting are included only when expressly agreed.

Options

From individual labels to a complete layout.

The relationship between a label and its control matters. Start with a dimensioned sketch whose holes, edges and text share the same reference. We assess the engraving and suitable material. You or your technical lead supply the functional layout and meaning of the labels.

Front plates and control areas

Label functions, settings or connections. Supply the actual dimensions and positions so the engraving matches the existing components.

Switch and component labels

Small labels can identify individual buttons or components. For short identifiers away from the panel, compare tags and labels as another option.

Replacement panels

A readable original, photograph and drawing help when replacing an existing plate. Tell us which text stays the same and which functions or versions have changed.

Choices & specification

Legibility starts with preparation.

01

Assess the material

Supply the exact material, thickness and finish. Suitable engraving laminate and appropriate metals provide different contrast and need different processes. Describe indoor or outdoor use, cleaning and contact with hands or substances. A material name alone does not establish suitability for every application; we assess the combination against your requirements.

02

Holes and outlines

Define the outer outline, hole diameters, cut-outs and centre distances from one fixed origin. Specify units, any tolerances and the side shown in the drawing. Engraving a supplied plate differs from supplying a new plate with cut-outs. We assess cutting separately for the material, thickness and shape. The quotation states which outlines and cut-outs are included.

03

Text and symbols

Specify the text, symbol, reading direction and distance to its component for each label. Allow for buttons, rings and fixings that may cover part of the plate after installation. Use a consistent style for similar functions and supply clear symbol files. Put the drawing number and revision on every file and identify the final version.

We provide the agreed engraving. Electrical connection, functional testing and safety assessment of a machine or installation are outside this service.

Preparing your enquiry

This helps us get started.

  • A drawing to scale with all outer dimensions and hole positions.
  • Material, thickness and finish details.
  • Exact labels, symbols and reading direction.
  • Number of panels and a reference for each variant or version.
  • Operating environment, cleaning and required date.

After contact, supply an accurately dimensioned drawing with units, origin and revision, plus a readable list of labels. See our artwork guide. State quantities and item references for each variant, and whether these are separate plates or assembled components. Have your own parts assessed first before supplying them.

From idea to proposal

What affects the price?

Drawing preparation, material, extent of engraving, quantity and agreed cutting affect the price. Reconstructing the layout of a worn original may take additional work. Identify changes between variants explicitly. If you want to assess one sample in its intended position first, we discuss the scope, cost and schedule separately.

SDLG works from Breda and delivers products throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Visits, drop-offs and collection at Heusing 10K are by appointment only. Tell us your preference when enquiring; we agree the schedule, packaging and shipping costs. See our contact details and directions to our workshop.

Your first idea is enough to start a conversation.

Useful to know

Frequently asked questions.

Have a different question? Ask us about your project.

Can you engrave an existing panel?

We assess the material, dimensions, coating and shape. Send photographs and product information first. Supply a panel only after agreeing the specification.

Do you also make holes and cut-outs?

We assess this for each material and drawing. Cutting is not automatically included in every panel project. The proposal specifies which outlines and cut-outs we supply.

Can you copy the text from a worn panel?

We can discuss options using a readable example and checked dimensions. You confirm the final text and layout, especially if a symbol or number on the original is unclear.

Do you also connect the controls?

This service covers the labels and agreed plate work. Have the controls connected and checked by your own installer or technical lead.

Is a photograph enough to reproduce a panel?

A photograph helps explain the layout but does not provide reliable dimensions. Perspective can distort distances and worn text may be unclear. Supply checked outer dimensions, hole positions and exact labels. Missing information needs to be established before the final layout can be made.

How do I distinguish panel versions?

Use an item number and revision for each version, with the same identifier on the drawing, text list and order. Put quantities per version in one list. Identify changes from the previous version and which files are superseded. A visible revision label on the plate can be discussed if space allows.
