Wedding shoe engraving inspired by bridal lace

Wedding shoe engraving using the lace design from the wedding dress connected the groom’s shoes with the bride’s dress. Niels van Mourik, a returning business customer of SDLG, supplied one pair of uncoloured leather shoes for this project. SDLG digitised the design and carried out the laser engraving in Breda in October 2026.

The shoes are intended for Joost and Erika’s wedding on 11 November 2026. The floral and leaf pattern was applied to the uppers. The leather sections of both soles received their names, wedding rings and the wedding date.

From a lace pattern to artwork suitable for engraving

The project began with the supplied lace design from the wedding dress. The aim was to make that design recognisable on the shoes. SDLG digitised the pattern and prepared it for laser engraving, keeping the flowers and leaves together as a coherent design.

A design for a dress cannot simply be placed unchanged on a shoe. The upper has its own shape, seams and available space. SDLG therefore adapted the digital pattern to the shoes. The overview photograph shows how the motif appears on both shoes.

The floral and leaf pattern was laser engraved onto the uppers of both shoes. The dark linework is clearly visible against the light leather. The detail photograph shows flowers around the centre seam and fine leaves beside the stitching.

The work was carried out on uncoloured shoes. This reflects the division of work in the project: SDLG produced the engraving, after which Van Mourik Schoenen could colour and further finish the pair. The supplied photographs show this intermediate stage. They show the engraving before the footwear atelier’s final colour treatment.

Names, wedding rings and the date on the soles

A personal engraving was also applied beneath both shoes. The names Joost and Erika, an illustration of wedding rings and the date 11-11-2026 were positioned to fit the leather sole sections.

The pair therefore has two different personal details: the pattern on top that connects with the wedding dress, and the couple’s details underneath. The sole photograph shows exactly where the elements were placed, between the other sections of the sole.

Working with Van Mourik Schoenen

This business project combines SDLG’s engraving with further finishing by the footwear atelier. Niels wanted the lace design to be recognisable on the shoes while allowing the pair to be finished afterwards.

His response to the engraving:

“BRILLIANT!
Wow. I really couldn’t imagine it. But this is beautiful!!”

Frequently asked questions about wedding shoe engraving

Can a wedding dress lace design be engraved onto shoes?

For this project, the supplied pattern was digitised and adapted to the uppers. For a new project, SDLG first assesses the artwork, material and available engraving area.

Are the shoes in the photographs completely finished?

The photographs show the engraving on uncoloured leather. Van Mourik Schoenen handles the subsequent colouring and further finishing. These images therefore do not show the shoes in their final colour.

What should a footwear atelier supply beforehand?

Send the artwork, clear photographs, material information and intended positioning. Explain any finishing that will follow and when the pair is needed. Arrange delivery after discussing the work. Scheduling is confirmed after checking stock and the proposed work.
