From our workshop

A multitool with a recognisable inscription.

This photograph from our own work shows a multitool with a short identification inscription on the handle. A compact mark uses the available space on the tool, making the inscription easy to find.

Your own tools or a complete set?

After initial contact, send an overview photograph and a close-up of the required marking position. Tell us the brand or model, quantity, text or logo and engraving dimensions. For mixed sets, we assess each tool type separately.

The fibre engraving field is a maximum of 120 × 120 mm. A scale running along a 120 cm ruler is outside this field. A compact mark on a suitable accessible part requires a separate assessment.

Careful choices make the difference

Tool engraving with its use in mind

An ownership mark helps distinguish tools. Choose a position that stays visible and does not constantly rub against another surface. A company name or compact number may be clearer on a small area than a full logo with a strapline.

The shape, material and available space vary across a tool set. Prepare a list with a photograph of each type and the required text. SDLG assesses whether the details can be produced on the chosen area. Working, load-bearing or certified parts need extra care: we do not assess technical safety certificates or alter a functional surface without prior agreement.

Options

Visible to the person using it.

Tools in a workshop or installation team can look alike. A legible mark helps identify and organise your own equipment. Keep the text short and choose a position that stays visible in use. A consistent layout is useful for a set, even when the position varies between tools.

A name or company logo

Identify a suitable hand tool. Send an overview photograph and a close-up of the intended surface so we can assess the space.

Inventory and teams

Use your own numbering sequence or team code. For larger batches, see data and preparation information under batch engraving.

Part of your company identity

Coordinate marked tools with your workwear. A consistent name and logo version make different applications recognisable.

Choices & specification

The right position is part of the work.

01

Metal and coating

Metal types, chrome plating, paint and other layers respond differently. A photograph is a starting point; additional product information or a suitable sample may be needed.

02

Position and function

Choose an accessible surface where text stays visible during use. Identify areas used for grip, fitting or contact. Existing dimensions, warnings and manufacturer information remain legible; the proposed position is assessed for each tool.

03

Different models

Pliers, spanners and sockets each have different shapes and available space. Group the enquiry by brand and model, with quantities and required text. A consistent design can be adapted to different positions without forcing the same text size on every tool.

A mark makes tools identifiable but does not guarantee protection against loss or theft. For inspected, insulated, calibrated or other specialist tools, operating and manufacturer conditions need to be assessed beforehand.

Preparing your enquiry

This helps us get started.

  • List of tools and quantities per model.
  • Photographs of each product and intended marking area.
  • Brand/model and known material or coating details.
  • Name, logo or checked number list.
  • Special operating requirements, required date and delivery location.

Mark the intended position on a photograph and supply the available width and height. Give each item an individual reference in the number list. Use the same reference when supplying the items to keep the product and text together. For a logo, see our artwork and file guide.

From idea to proposal

What affects the price?

The number of models, accessibility, text variations and processing time affect the price. A mixed collection of tools usually needs different preparation from a batch of identical products.

SDLG works from Breda and delivers products throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Visits, drop-offs and collection at Heusing 10K are by appointment only. Tell us your preference when enquiring; we agree the schedule, packaging and shipping costs. See our contact details and directions to our workshop.

Your first idea is enough to start a conversation.

Useful to know

Frequently asked questions.

Have a different question? Ask us about your project.

Can you engrave a complete tool set?

You can enquire about a set. We assess each part for its material, shape and suitable marking area. Position and process may differ between parts.

Can a plastic handle be marked?

This depends on the plastic and any coating. Supply reliable material information. We do not process unidentified plastics without assessment.

Can you engrave existing tools?

This may be possible after assessing the material, condition and marking area. Send photographs showing existing wear and marks. Agree cleaning and supply beforehand; see engraving customer-supplied products to prepare your enquiry.

Is engraving suitable for safety equipment?

Not automatically. Specify the exact product and relevant operating conditions. Processing must not unintentionally affect its function or existing marks; suitability is confirmed only after assessment.

Can I add tools to the same numbering sequence later?

Yes, send the new items and required numbers for assessment. Include the earlier order, layout and numbers already used. You supply the new values; we reassess the material and marking position for the added models.

Can my tool have a QR code?

This needs enough suitable space and contrast for the intended scanner. Specify the model, encoded content and operating conditions. A small or strongly curved surface may limit options. Read more about QR code and barcode engraving.
