A wedding invitation became a personal wedding gift: SDLG adapted the flowers and wording for an engraved mirror in a made-to-measure reclaimed timber frame.

An engraved mirror inspired by a wedding invitation

An engraved mirror with the flowers and words of a wedding invitation. For the Govaarts family, SDLG made a personal wedding gift for their daughter: a mirror engraved on the back, with a made-to-measure reclaimed timber frame. The project measured 700 × 500 mm. It was delivered in July 2026, ahead of the wedding.

The request: preserve the invitation in a special gift

The family wanted their daughter’s wedding invitation reflected in a mirror. The gift would remain useful after the wedding and serve as a reminder of that special day.

The invitation was the starting point: colourful flowers, names and the Dutch phrase “Het begin van ons, voor altijd.” SDLG explored how to turn these elements into an engraving while leaving enough open space for the mirror to remain useful.

The original wedding invitation was the starting point for the floral design and personal wording on the mirror.

Adapting the design to the mirror

The invitation was rearranged for the mirror’s size and function. Flowers were placed along the edges, wording and the wedding date at the top, and names at the bottom. Most of the centre remained clear.

SDLG developed the design into a file suitable for laser engraving. This retained the character of the invitation in a different form and on another material.

Engraving the back for a light-transmitting effect

SDLG recommended engraving the rear surface of the mirror. Light from behind can pass through the engraved areas, giving the flowers and letters a distinctive effect when lighting is added behind the mirror.

SDLG supplied the engraving and bespoke work. The customer installed the LED lighting themselves.

A made-to-measure reclaimed timber frame

The mirror and reclaimed timber frame were both made to measure for this project. The broad wooden edge creates a warm, calm surround. The photograph shows the frame before the engraved mirror was fitted.

The engraved mirror: a memory to see every day

The finished piece is a usable mirror with personal meaning. Flowers, names and the wedding date connect the gift to the original invitation and the wedding.

The family was very pleased with the result. After the wedding they visited again to tell us how well the gift had been received.

“we zijn zeer tevreden over de kwaliteit en nog meer over het meedenken. Goed werk.”
