Engraved items for a useful onboarding kit

Build a personal welcome around the working day. Coordinate useful items, logo positions and a checked list of individual names.

Plan a useful onboarding kit

An onboarding kit becomes personal when its contents suit the work and recipient. A suitable bottle, pen or keyring with a logo or name can form part of that welcome. Choose items that will actually be used, then coordinate personalisation.

Build the kit around the working day

Office staff use different items from colleagues working on location. Consider a water bottle, pen or keyring. A notebook may also suit the kit, but engraving suitability depends on its cover material and finish.

Sustainability is not an automatic property of an engraved product. Choose usefulness, appropriate care and repeated use, assessing material or sourcing claims per item. Engraving alone proves neither environmental benefit nor unlimited life.

Logo, first name or a personal detail

A company logo gives recognition; a first name adds individuality. Available space determines legibility. A short message or smaller symbol may work better than logo, slogan, name and year on one small surface.

SDLG checks your logo and detail on the selected product. Material and coating affect visibility. A rotary attachment can be used for suitable round products; shape and placement are assessed beforehand.

Make variable names easy to check

For several new colleagues, use a checked list with one row per recipient and identify the name for each product. Check accents, capitals and product colour variants. Share only data necessary for the order.

Agree when the list becomes final and how later additions are handled. Under batch engraving you can read about fixed designs with variable details. Submission arrangements are explained under artwork and files.

Allow for new colleagues later in the year

Discuss how often new kits will be needed. One larger order and smaller repeat orders differ in preparation, availability and planning. Stock management requires a separate agreement; it is not automatically included.

For a complete welcome, branded workwear can share the same identity. Include sizes, fit, colours and logo positions. Agree the whole kit’s receipt date before promising a start date.

A useful product with a recognisable logo

This yellow insulated bottle was part of our year-end gift project for FM Technical Services, not an onboarding order. A welcome pack still benefits from asking whether the recipient will use the item, whether the logo is readable and which details should vary by employee.

Frequently asked questions about your onboarding kit

Can I prepare an onboarding kit before personal names are known?

Discuss a fixed company logo with a separate name field, or deliberately choose an unnamed version. Agree when names become final. A blank name field is not an instruction to omit it unless that is stated.

Does the FM Technical Services case show a completed onboarding kit?

No. It involved 22 year-end gifts: ten insulated bottles, ten fleece scarves and two fleece jackets. It shows how one logo appears differently on different materials. An onboarding kit needs its own selection and specification.

How do I handle colleagues joining later?

Retain product references and the approved logo version and submit additions as an identifiable new order. Recheck availability and scheduling. An initial order does not automatically reserve products for later starters.

Can one unchanged logo file be used on every kit item?

Not always. FM’s dark fleece engraving and logo removed from yellow bottle coating show different results. Assess size, detail and contrast for each product; do not expect glass, metal coatings and textiles to share one finish.

What should I specify when workwear and engraved products are needed together?

List items and quantities separately, with clothing sizes and names for each variant. State when the complete onboarding kit must reach you. Agree beforehand whether items will be supplied together or separately.
